The concept of ‘food security’, introduced at the World Food Summit in 1996, refers to the physical, social and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food, at all times, to meet dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life.

This course introduces the concepts and tools used in food security analysis. It defines food security and its relationship to the concepts of vulnerability, hunger, malnutrition and poverty. The course also provides guidelines on how to interpret and use conceptual frameworks for analysing food security. 1.5 hour.
