  5. 15 kwi 2016 · To my delight, I found Shane's Chess Information Database (or SCID for short). SCID is open source freeware, meaning you can download it and use it for free! I do recommend checking out Chessbase as it is perhaps the most powerful and widely used commercial chess database.

  6. I love SCID and have been using it for years, but there's one feature that makes ChessBase much better for me. When you're loading a big database in as a tree, you have to wait for the entire tree to be built before SCID will show you the results.
