However, many were left wondering if Schwinn bikes are still worth the money after the company was sold off to Pacific Cycle in 2001.
The main issue with any Schwinn after 2002 is the fact they're cheap department store quality bikes. Schwinn, over a decade ago and sold the company to Pacific cycle, the company that makes most of the bikes you see in target, Walmart, etc.
Schwinn is not a good bike brand, even if you don’t care about fancy parts. They make very cheap bikes that retail for very little and have done so for years. If you want a commuter bike you should look into a used road bike, and look to ideally spend $400-$600 for an okay one.
Can you still get an enjoyable and capable adventure bike at a remotely affordable price and rescue the idea of a touring/exploring/ bikepacking trip as an economical escape? I tested a couple of £500ish gravel bikes from Schwinn and Voodoo to find out. There’s no traditional touring bike in this test because there aren’t any at this price.
I have a Schwinn Super Sport GLX that I bought in 2001, the last year of the "bike shop Schwinn." Full 105, carbon fork, velomax (velocity + easton) wheelset. Compact road frame geometry like yours, but mine is a step down that doesn't have the carbon seat stays.
