On 31 December 2019, at approximately 22:00 Alaska Standard Time, the United States Coast Guard received a distress call from the crab fishing vessel Scandies Rose. The vessel was on its way from Kodiak, Alaska to the Bering Sea to fish crabs.
29 cze 2021 · On Dec. 31, 2019, the Scandies Rose was traveling southwest, west of Kodiak Island, but sank in frigid waters near Sutwik Island. Only two of the seven crew members survived the wreckage. The other five were never found.
The Scandies Rose, valued at $15 million, was declared a total loss. According to the surviving crewmembers, the vessel had begun to encounter freezing spray and accumulate ice from 0200 to 0800 on the day of the accident.
