The Museum of Photographic Arts is one of the only museums in the country dedicated exclusively to the photographic arts, presenting work by some of the world's most celebrated photographers and cinematographers in its spacious new galleries and state-of-the-art 228 seat theater. MoPA is located in beautiful Balboa Park near downtown San Diego.

  5. Located in beautiful Balboa Park, the Museum of Photographic Arts is a vibrant center for visual learning. Since its founding in 1983, the museum’s endeavors to consistently address cultural, historical and social issues through its exhibitions and educational programs.

  6. Originally installed in November 2020, but closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Masters of Photography: The Garner Collection is now reopening to the public November 20, 2021–February 21, 2022. No photography is allowed within this exhibition.

The museum shop is rather good too, with photography-themed gifts, Lomography camera sets, technical reads and books on still- and moving-picture greats like Gus Van Sant.
