He currently serves as the team physician for the NBA San Antonio Spurs, the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) athletics, Trinity University and many local high schools. He was named the NBATA Team Physician of the Year in 2004, and was awarded the 2007 Dr. Ernst Jokl Sports Medicine Award by the United States Sports Academy.

Dr. Rush provided orthopedic care for critically injured soldiers, airmen, and Marines, as well as local children, in the forward deployed and austere setting. He deployed twice, once with the 14th Combat Support Hospital to Camp Bastion, Afghanistan and a second time with the 86th Combat Support Hospital to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait and Baghdad, Iraq.
