The 25-mile section from Manistee Lake to the Tippy Dam is far and away the most popular salmon fishing section of the river, with standing-room-only fishing on weekends near the dam. The Bear Creek confluence is another epic spot for kings.
4 wrz 2024 · Salmon: They are OFFICALLY here! Tippy Dam area is a hot spot for Kings and some Coho are starting to work upwards as well. The Pere Marquette River has a good run as well! Places in our area to check out include, of course, Tippy, Sawdust and Highbridge.
Come Join us for excellent Fall Salmon fishing on the Big Manistee River below Tippy Dam. Salmon season is best from Labor Day through late October when huge numbers of Chinook and Coho Salmon ascend the river and move up stream towards the Tippy Dam area near Wellston. September – October is best.

The Manistee River, situated in the northern Lower Peninsula, is undoubtedly one of Michigan’s premier salmon fishing rivers. It boasts impressive runs of Chinook and coho salmon, attracting anglers from across the country.
My favorite rivers to fish are the Big Manistee and Pere Marquette. My favorite target species is steelhead more specifically catching them on the swing during the fall months. I also really enjoy dry fly fishing for trout in May and June.
