Several movements of Rachmaninoff's All-Night Vigil and Liturgy are some of the saddest pieces I've ever heard. Notably the second movement of the Vigil, Tebe Poem and, the Cherubic hymn from the Liturgy. If you want to hear sad music just listen to Russian and Polish composers.
