8 lut 2019 · Sibelius' 4th symphony would be on my list of dark pieces, along with the 4th and 6th symphonies by Vaughan Williams.
I recommend one of my favorite composers -- Shostakovich -- for extortionate sadness: Shostakovich - String Quartet No. 13 This one-movement string quartet is miserable all the way through, but the ending is particularly biting, with the viola wavering way up at the top of its range (that final scream is mostly the viola, not the violins)
28 cze 2019 · Bach – Partita No. 2 in D minor. One of Bach’s best-known works for solo violin, the Partita No. 2 has great architectural beauty. As with many unaccompanied works, it is very much the challenge of the performer to create that sustained, virtuosic sound.
Sad Pieces. I’ve been feeling really emotional and down lately. I need some really sad/depressing pieces to help heal. My usual is Mahler 9, Tchaikovsky 6, and Itzhak Perlman playing Schindler’s List, but I want to feel something I’ve never felt before. Any recommendations?
