Looked online at Kayak which led me to Car Rental 8. Am I going to spend the $30 on Uber getting to airport and low and behold they won't have a car for me? I understand it's a booking agency only.

Re: Car rental 8 (carrental8) 10 years ago. My recent experience with Carrental8 was also horrible - I DO NOT recommend them. I was okay with the original booking where I paid for the rental up front and was responsible for the taxes upon pick-up.

Look through your credit cards to see if there's a car insurance (covers CDW) benefit that comes with it. Some non-annual fee cards have this. You just need to pay the car rental on the card to activate the benefit.
