The Buk (Russian: "Бук"; " beech " (tree), / bʊk /) is a family of self-propelled, medium-range surface-to-air missile systems developed by the Soviet Union and its successor state, the Russian Federation, and designed to counter cruise missiles, smart bombs and rotary-wing aircraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles. In February 2021, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Defense (MoD) announced that it has taken delivery of its first battalion set of the Russian-made 9K317M2E Buk-M2E (SA-17 'Grizzly') self-propelled air-defense system.
The 9M317 missile has an extended range up to 45-50 km in range and up to 25 km in height and parameter, as well as a large nomenclature of targets. It provides for the use of an inertial-corrected control system with the new 9E420 semi-active Doppler radar (see photo ).
