The Buk M2E / SA-17 Grizzly 9A317 TELAR is equipped with the new NIIP 9S36 passive phased array engagement radar, which provides the capability to concurrently track and illuminate multiple targets for the four 9M317 Grizzly SAM rounds.
With the integration of a new missile, the Buk-M1-2 and Buk-M2 systems also received a new NATO reporting name Grizzly and a new DoD designation SA-17. Since 2013, the latest incarnation "Buk-M3" is currently in production and active service with a new DoD designation SA-27 .
According to a video published by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Defense (MoD) on February 1, 2021, the Kazak Army has received the first export version of the Russian-made Buk-M2, NATO Code SA-17 Grizzly, Medium-range surface-to-air defense missile system, called Buk-M2E.
The 9M317 missile has an extended range up to 45-50 km in range and up to 25 km in height and parameter, as well as a large nomenclature of targets. It provides for the use of an inertial-corrected control system with the new 9E420 semi-active Doppler radar (see photo ).
