An invasion of Portugal by French and Spanish forces occurred from 19–30 November 1807 during the Napoleonic Wars, sparking the Peninsular War. The Franco-Spanish invasion force was led by Jean-Andoche Junot, while the Portuguese were under the nominal command of Prince Regent John.
Peninsular War. The Peninsular War (1807–1814) was the military conflict fought in the Iberian Peninsula by Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom against the invading and occupying forces of the First French Empire during the Napoleonic Wars.
