The BT-7 [b] was the last of the BT series of Soviet cavalry tanks that were produced in large numbers between 1935 and 1940. It was lightly armoured, but reasonably well-armed for the time, and had much better mobility than other contemporary tank designs.

burned out soviet tank BT-7. BT (fast tank) series based upon the Christie M1931 tank. BT-2 had turret with 37mm gun and one MG. BT-2 built in late 1931, it went into full production the following year. BT-5 was the first major production model.

In 1939 each Soviet light tank brigade counted three tank companies, for a total of 17 BT-7s or T-26s and a reserve one (7 BT-7s). By the summer of 1941, the BT-7 found itself more capable to fight the German onslaught than the more numerous, but slower T-26.
