Herbs are pretty much all 1/100k chance per patch (you only roll for pet after picking the last herb) where hardwoods, cactus and seaweed range from 1/7500 to 1/5000. Best thing you can do is frequent cacti, belladonna, hespori, giant seaweed and mushrooms with fruit trees/hardwoods/tree runs mixed in.
Giant seaweed, mushrooms, belladonna, regular cactus, then the big patches, Hespori, and then fruit trees and trees (only trees scaled by type of tree). So yeah.. regular XP method I'm pretty sure is ~180m XP to hit pet rate. But doing just pet patches you'll hit rate before you're 99. Its all good.
The tangleroot is a skilling pet that can be obtained when checking the health (for patches that have this option, like fruit trees) or when harvesting the final crop (for patches without a "Check health" option) of a farming patch. It can also be obtained while playing the Tithe Farm minigame.
