Scrolls can be found throughout the map in any trinket spawn or can be obtained through Scroll Roulette at the Skycastle. In order to use a scroll, you need to have a Tome or be Tomeless to use the scrolls by just clicking with them to obtain the Spell.
Royal Woods. "A dark presence looms over a lush green paradise." Can find multiple Dire Flowers. One of the three Fallion (Scholar Trainer) spawns, at the Obelisk just outside Oresfall. Wraith Knight Mirror, right next to the Fallion spawn.
Scroll Roulette is a service in the Castle in the Sky you can do to gamble your Silver for Scrolls, by talking to Xenyari, a Vind standing in the middle of the library room. In Khei, there is an NPC in the Grand Archives library that serves the same purpose.
Skills can be acquired through class progression, leveling up (skills acquired vary depending on race), completing certain quests, or using scrolls (some skills learned from scrolls are class exclusive and will only work in battle if you are the necessary class).
I saw a picture of the map from above, and it looks like a completely straight line, so it should be a lot easier to navigate than Gaia. I still have to learn where the towns and useful npcs are though
If you don’t mind some spoilers, the nethack wiki will help you decipher some of the cryptic messages. The strategy is to read the scrolls when you have some potions and hopefully one will be an identify scroll. I’ve never made it lower than level twelve
Khei Map, Bird's Eye View. If you plan to go to the Forge, don't climb walls surrounding it, as you are likely to die from harpies. Khei tundra is really small. If you somehow get lost, backfire Ignis then roll. You can go through tundra as a freshie (no cold resistance, Ignis recommended in case).
