The Second River Niger Bridge is part of a new motorway ring, which aims to minimize traffic congestion on the old bridge and to strengthen the entire region generally. Julius Berger is providing the planning, logistics and construction of the river bridge.
Acting through its wholly owned subsidiary, NSIA Motorways Investment Company (NMIC), NSIA is collaborating with the Federal. Ministry of Works and Julius Berger Investments (JBI) as joint sponsors on the financing, development and construction of the Second Niger Bridge project (the “Project”).
The 2NB project is a very significant project that will decongest the existing Niger Bridge, boost economic activities, and connect the South-East with the rest of the country. The project and its link roads are expected to be 46.9km long, connecting Asaba (Delta State) and Onitsha (Anambra State).
The Second Niger bridge is a Nigerian Federal Government project that is 1.6 km (0.99 mi) long and furnished with other ancillary infrastructure including a 10.3 km (6.4 mi) highway, Owerri interchange and a toll station all at Obosi city near Onitsha, inaugurated in March 2022.
