The Curse of the Billy Goat was a sports curse that was supposedly placed on the Chicago Cubs Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise in 1945, by Billy Goat Tavern owner William Sianis. The curse lasted 71 years, from 1945 to 2016.
When the goat was sent to Houston in an effort to reverse the curse, Houston lost while the Cubs won their first division title in fourteen years. The Cubs were on a roll. They would go on to beat the Atlanta Braves, winning their first post season series in almost 100 years.

Sianis reportedly attempted to forgive the Cubs and lift the curse before he passed away in 1970, but he proved unsuccessful. Later, his nephew, Sam Sianis, took over the Billy Goat Tavern and made public attempts to reverse the curse by repeatedly bringing goats to Wrigley Field which were allegedly descendants of the infamous Murphy.
