My mobile number changed a few years ago but I never updated my profile. Now I can't log in as Paypal wants to send me a text on the old number to verify the account. I've tried logging in from a different browser which doesn't work.

If you're having trouble logging in, you may need to recover access to your PayPal account. Once you regain access, please update your mobile number in the account right away. You can also choose to deactivate 2-step verification at any time.
Try downloading the app and changing the phone number via settings OR using the forgotten password option. If that does not work then you would need to contact customer services so that they can i.d. you another way and then add your new phone number to your account.
When you verify your account, you're proving that you own the financial details added to your account. To get verified, go to your account to add and confirm your bank account or, if you prefer, add and confirm your debit or credit card .
Press the number on your phone's keypad here (I usually picked #2). Another option is to say "PIN," "OTP," or "one-time PIN." It might ask you if it's for Paypal's debit card, so say "yes" to get connected to an agent.
To confirm your phone number from the PayPal website: Go to your Settings. Choose Set as Primary. Click Confirm to set your phone number as your primary PayPal phone number. To resend the confirmation code on the app: Tap the Profile Icon. Tap Account Info. Tap Phone Numbers. Tap the number you want to confirm, then tap Resend Code.
