If you hold a current (i.e. active) Texas nursing license but do not wish to renew your license, per Board Rule 217.9 and Board Rule 221.9, you have the option to place your Texas RN, LVN, or APRN license in "inactive" or "retired" status if you no longer wish to maintain an active license.

When you renew your license, you are required to sign a statement attesting that the continuing competency requirements have been met (CNE contact hours or approved national nursing certification, and any applicable targeted continuing education requirements).
Renewal – If a nurse cannot demonstrate meeting the continuing competence requirements, the license will be placed on INACTIVE STATUS starting at 12:01 a.m. on the first day after a nurse’s renewal date until compliance with the Continuing Competence requirement is met.
