Seven states require schools to have between 170 and 178 school days in the school year. These states and their required days are: Arkansas: 178 days. Kentucky: 170 days. Louisiana: 177 days. Maine: 175 days. North Dakota: 175 days.
A school day is determined from the start to the close of each student's daily instructional schedule. Scheduled hours include up to 30 minutes per day of recess but does not include the lunch period.
