Use the recovery partition to return it to factory condition or Clean reinstall the Operating system, then use Eraser to erase the free space on the drive, this will leave the computer in usable condition and no personal data will be recoverable.

Try resetting the Windows theme: Right-click your desktop; Click Properties; Click the Themes tab; Select Windows XP from the list of themes; Click Apply; Restart your computer; Failing that, try an sfc /scannow to check for any corrupt system files they may be preventing the desktop wallpaper from automatically refreshing.

Here you need to make sure the disc that you get matches the COA on the base of your system. i.e. if the sticker on your system says XP Home Edition, use an XP Home Edition disc; if it says XP Professional Edition use an XP Professional Edition Disc.
