Does Mongolia need an army? Technically no, since the modern Mongolian borders were drawn as a buffer state between the USSR and China. And theoretically speaking, if Mongolia got invaded by either Russia or China their chances of repelling the attack is almost zero, even if Mongolia allocated 100% of the country’s GDP into its defense.
