They have a spot of bright red on the undersides of their wings, which explains their "red-shouldered macaw" nickname. This bird's beak is black with a beige to white color in the upper beak.

The Hahn’s Macaw (Diopsittaca nobilis) is also known as the Red Shouldered Macaw. It is the smallest Macaw, being 30 to 35 cm in length. Its personality is similar to the large Macaws. It is an excellent talker that can be taught many tricks and thus is much sought after as pets.
The species is named for the red coverts on its wings. It is the smallest macaw, being 30–35 cm (12–14 in) in length - similar in size to the Aratinga parakeets. It is native to the tropical lowlands, savannah, and swamplands of Brazil, the Guianas, Bolivia, Venezuela, and far south-eastern Peru.
At 165g (5.8 oz) the Red-shouldered Macaw is the smallest of all the macaws. By contrast, the Hyacinth Macaw is 1400g (49 oz) or more.
