The head light has a white LED and a red LED . A red only LED has its spectrum well in the safe area as it has a narrow spectrum unlike filtered tungsten. Some LEDs are multicolour which sounds like your trouble.

I use an LED bulb for safelight, but make sure you test for fogging anyway. While a red LED is most likely safe, a lot of “red” led bulbs are in fact white leds with red filters.
15 maj 2011 · I put my safelight bulb in a regular wall lamp socket. You could use a thrift store lamp somewhere in your darkroom if you don't have a wall fixture in there. A dual fixture overhead with separate wall switches for the red light and the regular light is ideal IMO.
Thought I'd try out the red light headlamps and this particular one from canadian tire works pretty well. Decided to try out the headlamp after getting a red led bulb off amazon that didn't work out.
