I use a red LED headlight. I don’t bother turning on my normal safelight any more. The light is wherever I want. The head light has a white LED and a red LED . A red only LED has its spectrum well in the safe area as it has a narrow spectrum unlike filtered tungsten.
I have six, red LED strip lights that make my darkroom look like daytime on Mars. Never had any orthographic material compromised. Years of squinting with 15 watt orange/red bulb are over.

6 kwi 2020 · You can use any amber or red light, so long as you test it this way. My first safelight was a phone flashlight covered by the red filter from a pair of 3D glasses, propped up on a shelf. Safelight v1. When I posted this photo to my Facebook darkroom group, it generated a good deal of amusement.
20 lip 2016 · I am using a commercial red LED bulb (1,5 W) in an Ilford SL-1 with the orange filter. Has worked like a charm, it is bright enough to read a newspaper in the darkroom and the light has passed all safelight tests.
This is an LED-based safelight for black and white printing in a traditional darkroom. The virtue of this particular design is that it is quick, easy, and cheap to build, especially the enclosure.
