I remember reading an interview with one of the devs for Red Faction Guerilla, and he said that implementing this form of destruction was really difficult or something. That could be one of the reasons nobody is doing it.

Red Faction: Armageddon is not as bad as you think. RF:A sold so poorly that THQ pulled the plug on the series. Many criticised it for the lack of open-world, unlike the previous game Red Faction: Guerilla. It is for that reason why I didn't buy it.
Red Faction in my opinion, the shooting is great and the gameplay is engaging. except the second half when shit goes down. RF1 with Dash Faction + modding scene = Best RF. Also for those who are itching for more RF1 SP content, I would recommend to play Kava (a custom RF1 SP campaign based on RF mobile's storyline).
