11 kwi 2024 · US Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA): Adult male: 900 mcg retinol activity equivalents (RAE) (3000 international units [IU]) Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL): 3000 mcg RAE (10,000 IU)
Resources. Vitamin A. Download as PDF. Background. Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin which helps maintain normal reproduction, vision and immune function. It comes in a number of forms (as retinol, retinal, retinoic acid or retinyl ester).
Specifically, pregnant women should receive up to 10,000 IU vitamin A daily or up to 25,000 IU vitamin A weekly as an oral liquid, oil-based preparation of retinyl palmitate or retinyl acetate. Supplementation should be continued for a minimum of 12 wk during pregnancy until delivery.
The median intake of vitamin A ranges from 744 to 811 μg RAE/ day for men and 530 to 716 μg RAE/day for women. Using μg RAE, approximately 26 and 34 percent of vitamin A activity consumed by men and women, respectively, is provided from provitamin A carotenoids.
RDA: The Recommended Dietary Allowance for adults 19 years and older is 900 mcg RAE for men (equivalent to 3,000 IU) and 700 mcg RAE for women (equivalent to 2,333 IU). UL: The Tolerable Upper Intake Level is the maximum daily intake unlikely to cause harmful effects on health.
