9 sty 2010 · Got a call from the machinist today he said close to $700 for all the machining and parts, that includes going through the head, boring, turning crank, new timing chain and gears, cam and lifters, oil pump and complete gasket set. I guess that isn't so bad considering you can pay $400 and up for a junkyard motor.

You can find a complete engine rebuild kit (cam, lifters, all bearings, pistons, rings, seals, gaskets, freeze plugs, oil pump, valve seals...etc) for around $350. Cheap. You can also get a AX5 tranny rebuild kit from Zumbrota Bearing and Gear in Minnesota for $150 after S&H. Cheap.
