Studies such as Neiger et al. (2002) in normal dogs with regenerative anemia and not based on the parameter of regenerative RDW found the values of 15.6 ± 1.35 for normal dogs, 15.3 ± 3.93 for regenerative anemia and 16.2 ± 2, 78 for dogs with non-regenerative anemia.
Reference ranges vary between laboratories. Values provided by the reference laboratory should be always used.
15 paź 2024 · In the group with MMVD, 4 dogs with MMVD B2 and 1 dog with MMVD C had increased RDW (range: 14.5% to 16.3%), with mild anemia (normocytic, normochromic) identified in only one of them. Notably, this animal had no additional comorbidities at the time of diagnosis.
Table 1: Units and normal values in RDW dog. The value of RDW is being considered as an indicator of mortal- ity in the population.
8 mar 2023 · Red blood cell distribution width and RDW/Ca were significantly increased in 19 (28.1%) non-surviving dogs compared with 51 (71.9%) surviving dogs, and an RDW of >12.7% had good accuracy in predicting short-term death (i.e., dead within 14 days of admission).
The “normal” range should reflect the “reference” of 95% of the animals. Most automated hematology analyzers have pre-set reference ranges based on literature references or clinical studies. However, it is recommended that each clinic establishes its own reference ranges.
In humans, increased red blood cell distribution width (RDW) values are associated with higher morbidity and mortality in a variety of pathological processes. The main objective of this study was to evaluate RDW in dogs with a diverse range of pathologies.
