18 lut 2015 · The Chicago and Indiana State Line Railway (C&ISL) was incorporated July 13, 1880. It soon constructed an east/west line between the Grand Trunk Western/Santa Fe route to the west and the Chicago and Western Indiana Railroad to the east.
7 lip 2016 · The EJ&E had their own track east of State Line Tower to Grasselli, which paralleled and crossed the IHB East Chicago Belt. The EJ&E line connected to the Erie WB main track just outside the interlocking limits of State Line. Here is a 1978 photo by Jim Burd showing the connection.
An aptly named junction if there ever was one, State Line straddles the Illinois-Indiana border about a half mile northwest of downtown Hammond, Indiana. Most of although the interlocking is on the Indiana side of the line. From I-94 — the Bishop Ford (formerly Calumet) Expressway — exit at 130th Street and head east about one mile.

Backstory: Image of striking steelworkers near Inland Steel in Indiana Harbor section of East Chicago, Indiana, circa late 1940s. The view is southwest looking away from Inland Steel on Michigan Ave near the entrance to Plant 2. Later, a bridge over the railroad track would be built on this spot.
