In non-oral cavity patients undergoing definitive treatment with organ preservation, the standard of care remains concurrent chemoradiation.
Radiotherapy to the head and neck causes temporary (or acute) side effects. Side effects can be mild or more severe, depending on the size of the area being treated and the length of your treatment. They are usually more severe if you have radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy .
The main side effects from head and neck radiotherapy include mouth problems, problems with your teeth, weight loss, difficulty swallowing, changes to your voice and swelling in your neck and face (lymphoedema).
