6 mar 2024 · 7. Binky. A binky is a term used to describe a playful jump or twist that rabbits often do when they are happy or excited. For instance, a rabbit owner might say, “My bunny just did a binky in the backyard.” In a discussion about rabbit behavior, someone might explain, “A binky is a sign that a rabbit is feeling joyful and energetic.”
According to alt.pets.rabbits community of pet rabbit owners, it seems that Binky became a common name for pet rabbits around the same time it began to gain currency to refer to the jump, around 1996. Binky is also the name of the rabbit protaganist in Matt Groening's Life in Hell comics, the first issue was in 1978.
Binky is defined there as “A leap in the air, usually with a 180 degrees turn while in the air, and a bewildered expression upon landing.” It seems to have been coined by the post’s author, Dana Krempels of the Miami House Rabbit Society.
