Q drop aggregator sites and social media made it easy for people to learn about and discuss Q’s posts without ever having to wade through the cesspool of racist and antisemitic content on 8kun to find them.
According to the New York Times, the Q account on 8kun used a unique identifier linked to previous Q posts, known as "Q drops" to followers. An 8kun forum user quickly asked why Q had been absent for so long, to which the account replied: "It had to be done this way."
Between October 2017 and December 2020, Q posted approximately 5,000 messages — or “Q-drops” — on anonymous chat boards such as 4chan, 8chan and 8kun. The messages allude to a grand subterranean conflict between the political right and left.
