As in humans, inapparent infections can occur in animals. In a study of cats and dogs from households with COVID-19 cases in Texas, pet owners reported mild clinical signs of disease, including vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and sneezing, in 37 of 169 (22%) infected animals.
A small handful of pets from around the world have tested positive for Covid-19. It is uncommon for dogs to become unwell from close contact with someone with Covid-19, but infected dogs could develop mild symptoms. Severe effects in pets are extremely rare.
