21 maj 2024 · In the original Hebrew, the word translated as “honor” in Proverbs 3:9 means “to bestow rewards upon; weigh heavily upon.” Honoring God means showing Him the proper weight and value of His worth. We offer the Lord the first of our income because He is first and foremost in our lives.
What does Proverbs 3:9 mean? The Israelites were commanded by the Lord to give the first of their crops to the Lord out of gratitude for his bountiful provisions (Deuteronomy 26:1–3, 9–11). They were also commanded to tithe: to give a tenth of their wealth to the Lord (Numbers 18:21–24).
