26 mar 2015 · The 4-2-5 provides the platform to be multiple. 4-2-5 schemes have roots in 4-4, 4-3, and Nickel defenses. Combining elements from each scheme is what gives the 4-2-5 its versatility. Drawing on the scheme’s nickel roots gives 4-2-5 teams the ability to run a divorced front concept.
A 4-2-5 formation is great for defenses that are speedy at all three levels (defensive linemen, linebacker and secondary) and that have players with great instincts, a tenacious and aggressive approach, and the strength to match up with bigger receivers.
With a twin's formation, the coverage is cover-4 with a full matchup scheme. (Diagram #5) The corner, strong safety, and Will linebacker read the number-2 receiver. The strong safety's run key is the end man on the line of scrimmage (tackle).
