The story of Tereus and Philomela: summary. Philomela and Procne were sisters, daughters of Pandion, King of Athens. A Thracian man, Tereus, married Procne. However, Tereus desired his sister-in-law, Philomela, and he took her by force.

Procne wants to see her sister, Philomela. Tereus sets sail for Athens to get her, but when he first lays eyes on Philomela, he is overcome with love and with lust. Pandion, unaware of what's happened, agrees to let Philomela return to Athens with Tereus.
