13 wrz 2024 · KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 — In Malaysia, obesity is one of the most pressing health concerns, with nearly 20 per cent of the population classified as obese. The World Obesity Atlas projects that this number could increase to 41 per cent by 2035, stressing the urgent need for comprehensive prevention and treatment strategies.

The prevalence of obesity among Malaysian adults was 20.1%, based on the findings from this study. Multivariate analyses showed that women, being Malays, Indians, and other Bumiputeras, were significantly associated with a higher risk of obesity.
19 lip 2018 · In the past decade, there has been an emerging evidence on obesity research among adults in Malaysia. More obesity research needs to be conducted particularly on obesity intervention among specific gender, qualitative studies, economic cost and genetic factors of obesity.
The prevalence of obesity was reported at 20.1% in this study among Malaysian adults. The prevalence was signifi-cantly higher among women (24.9%) than men (15.6%), with no significant difference in locality, educational level, and monthly income.
In the National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2019, the current prevalence of obesity among Malaysian adults was 19.7% [26]. Pahang, Pulau Pinang, Terengganu, and Sabah showed the lowest rates of obesity (15.7%–18.6%) in comparison to other states in Malaysia [26].
