As of December 31, 2001, persons sentenced for a felony in the District of Columbia were the responsibility of the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Counts for 2019 and earlier may have been revised from previous reports.
Persons on probation made up 54% of the total correctional population in 2021, down from almost 57% in 2011 (table 3). There were almost 400,000 fewer persons held in state and federal prisons in 2021 than in 2011, and nearly 100,000 fewer in the custody of local jails.

12 maj 2023 · In 2021, there were 475 038 prisoners in the EU, equivalent to 106 prisoners per 100 000 people. The prisoner rate increased after a decline in 2020 (104 prisoners per 100 000 people) but remained the second-lowest figure since the turn of the century.
