The Clerk of Court is a locally elected state official who occupies an integral position within the judicial branch of government. Their duties and responsibilities are established and regulated by the laws of Maryland and the Rules of the Court of Appeals of Maryland.
Welcome to the District Court of Maryland for Prince George's County located in Upper Marlboro, MD. The District Court hears landlord/tenant cases, replevin actions, traffic violations, criminal cases classified as misdemeanors and certain felonies, and civil cases in the amount of $30,000 or less.
With exclusive original jurisdiction over jury trials in civil and criminal matters, as well as non-jury trials in equity matters, the Circuit Court handles a wide range of legal cases. They also offer specialized services such as problem-solving courts and a Family Justice Center to address social welfare needs in Prince George's County.
