The management of gingival enlargement includes nonsurgical approach, surgical approach, or both of them for severe cases. This case report illustrates a successful nonsurgical management of a 32-year-old female patient with gingivitis associated to localized gingival enlargement.
If a periodontal disease is diagnosed, pregnant women should know that both gingivitis and periodontitis can be treated safely during pregnancy. They should be informed that the risks of no treatment are significantly higher that the minimal trauma that might occur during therapy.

The changes in hormone levels and to the immune response associated with pregnancy have been implicated in the development or worsening of gingivitis. In most patients this can be managed with adequate oral hygiene, but more severe cases of gingival enlargement may require further professional care.
