The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Deputy Explorer Program is a career development and education program, open to youths who are between fourteen years and twenty-one years of age, who have expressed an interest in the law enforcement profession and volunteering in their community.
The primary explorer training academy is at the Sheriff's Training Academy and Regional Services Center (STARS) in Whittier, with satellite training academies at Lancaster Sheriff Station and the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita.
How do you get started? First, you need to contact the Explorer Advisor at the Sheriff’s station near you. You will need to complete an Application and Screening Questionnaire, pass an oral interview, be fingerprinted as part of your background check, and get a medical examination.
