Pocahontas: Directed by Mike Gabriel, Eric Goldberg. With Joe Baker, Christian Bale, Irene Bedard, Billy Connolly. An English soldier and the daughter of an Algonquin chief share a romance when English colonists invade seventeenth century Virginia.
Other cast members included John Larroquette, Rose Hemingway and Mary Faber. Both the actor and production received good reviews, with USA Today commenting: "Radcliffe ultimately succeeds not by overshadowing his fellow cast members, but by working in conscientious harmony with them - and having a blast in the process."
Pocahontas, daughter of a Native American tribe chief, falls in love with an English soldier as colonists invade 17th century Virginia.
Pocahontas' journey to the land of the settlers is softened with the help of comic sidekicks White Eagle and Fluffy Wing. Along with an upbeat soundtrack, the story showcases the American Indian girl's union with John Smith.
Among those on board are Captain John Smith (Mel Gibson) and Governor Ratcliffe (David Ogden Stiers). A storm erupts, and Smith saves the life of an inexperienced young settler named Thomas when he falls overboard, befriending him in the process serving as his big brother figure.
Set in Colonial America, Pocahontas has become a story of historical value known and loved internationally, among children of all ages. The film tells the story of the first English settlers in Virginia and the Native Americans who lived there.
