You could play free for a while and get 50-60 stats while doing some quests. That will give you a taste of the game. I think that sometime in November or December they drop their membership bundle and that is a good place to start membership because of the loyalty points that you get.
If it's your first time playing then I would suggest starting on F2P as it's a lot less to take in at once and you'll learn as you go on. You have nothing to lose except free time so yes it's worth giving it a shot.
