Monarch caterpillars feed on milkweed, the only plant on which the butterflies will lay their eggs. Milkweed plants have suffered as agricultural and industrial operations have grown significantly. Common herbicides and pesticides also create a toxic landing spot for monarchs on the remaining milkweed plants.
