Stigma can play an active role in pollen discrimination and some self-incompatibility reactions, that reject pollen from the same or genetically similar plants, involve interaction between the stigma and the surface of the pollen grain.

26 gru 2022 · In this review, we examine its occurrence in the angiosperm phylogeny and investigate associations between plant reproductive traits and TSS. Prominent hypotheses regarding the evolution of TSS invoke the adaptive functions of outcrossing, pollination efficiency, and pollen germination.
