In the flowering plants, an ovary is a part of the female reproductive organ of the flower or gynoecium. Specifically, it is the part of the pistil which holds the ovule (s) and is located above or below or at the point of connection with the base of the petals and sepals .
The ovule is a small structure present in the ovary. It is attached to the placenta by a stalk called a funicle. The funicle provides nourishment to the ovule. On the basis of the relative position of micropyle, body of the ovule, chalaza and funicle, there are six types of ovules.
Ovary, in botany, enlarged basal portion of the pistil, the female organ of a flower. The ovary contains one or more ovules, which develop into seeds upon fertilization. The ovary itself will mature into a fruit, either dry or fleshy, that encloses the seeds.
The ovary, which may contain one or multiple ovules, may be placed above other flower parts, which is referred to as superior; or, it may be placed below the other flower parts, referred to as inferior (Figure \(\PageIndex{4}\)).
28 kwi 2017 · The ovule is part of the makeup of the female reproductive organ in seed plants. It’s the place where female reproductive cells are made and contained, and it is what eventually develops into a seed after fertilization, only for the seed to then ripen and produce a complete adult plant.
The arrangement of ovules within the ovary can be classified into different types, such as axile, parietal, basal, or free-central. This arrangement affects the development and positioning of the seeds within the ovary, further influencing the shape and structure of the fruit.
23 maj 2011 · Ovules as developmental precursors of seeds are organs of central importance in angiosperm flowers and can be traced back in evolution to the earliest seed plants. Angiosperm ovules are diverse in their position in the ovary, nucellus thickness, number and thickness of integuments, degree and direction of curvature, and histological ...
