At one time it was described as being "rarer than diamonds". It is very dense, hard and heavy and takes a very high polish. Beautiful for turnery, inlays and other precious items.
30 sie 2007 · I am a pink ivory NUT. It is an extremely hard wood, extremely dense, quite oily, and takes a glass like polish. It is PRIME fretboard wood! It's up there with the snakewoods, blackwoods, etc. HOWEVER... I've really gotta deter you from using it for your first build.

28 sty 2011 · "Pink Ivory wood, a sacred wood of Zulu chiefs in Southern Africa, has long been treasured as a rare wood. At one time, it was said to be rarer than diamonds. The wood grows in various parts of Africa, and takes hundreds of years to reach a size suitable to make a bowl blank.
In 2007, this Tippin Pink Lady was inspired when we happened upon some rare Pink Ivory wood. This wood grows in southeast Africa and is rarely found in sizes suitable for guitars. Its beautiful vibrant color and amazing tone set us on a course to build this unique guitar.
In addition to its dazzling colors, texture and overall supremely regal appearance, Pink Ivory possesses great density (3230 lbf, on the Janka Hardness scale), making it well suited for a variety of applications.
