5 dni temu · The thalamus consists of a pair of oval masses of gray matter inferior to the lateral ventricles and surrounding the third ventricle. Sensory neurons entering the brain from the peripheral nervous system form relays with neurons in the thalamus that continue on to the cerebral cortex.

The information received is filtered before transferring it to the cerebral cortex, in order to prevent a brain overload. On the other side, the cortex sends information to the thalamus, so it can be diffused to other brain and spinal cord areas. Hypothalamus
The thalamus forms most of the diencephalon. It consists of two symmetrical egg-shaped masses, with neurons that radiate out through the cerebral cortex. Sensory data floods into the thalamus from the brain stem, along with emotional, visceral, and other information from different areas of the brain.
